Meet LAAM - SF Artist - Amy Lange

DESIGNER: AMY R. LANGE

Minimal Bags and LAAM team up to bring you custom screen printed liners and totes.

Amy Lange / LAAM is an artist based in San Francisco, California. She is a native of the west coast, having grown up half her life in the San Francisco Bay Area and the other half in rural Central Oregon. She received her BFA in Fibers from the University of Oregon in 2009, and then taught art at a small private high school in the bay area for four years. She regularly sews, dyes, takes photographs using her temperamental film cameras, and scavenges for discarded materials to make large sculptures. In late August, she began her MFA at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, CA, and is now making work inspired by the global garment industry, climate change, and the history of cargo ships.

Amy has been collaborating with Minimal Bags for the last year, designing and screen printing custom liner fabric for their Berlin Bag based on photographs she took of buildings in Berlin. She was inspired by the graphic quality of the newer apartment buildings against the stark blue sky. Once back in the States, Amy turned the photograph into a repeating pattern by mirroring it back on itself, forming this futuristic shape. She then screen printed the yardage by hand in two color ways, white on navy and peacock blue on cream. This design can only be found on these limited edition Minimal Bags. She has most recently introduce her dip-dyed and logo screen printed tote bags alongside Minimal Bags’ current line.

Check out the images below to see how Amy turned a simple photo into a one-of-a-kind custom liner.
